Lara Croft: Relic Run REVIEW

The new free mobile game from Square Enix may not be the best of its genre but it doesn't fail to deliver amusement to the casual gamer.
GAMEPLAY
Lara Croft: Relic Run has an overall decent gameplay. It has almost all the good features from the other games of its genre (Temple Run, Temple Run 2 etc.), like an immersive control system and it has new moves that Lara Croft can perform like wall-run or ride a bike.

However it is quite the heavy game for lower-lever tablets and smartphones. I tested it on a Nexus 7 (1st GEN) and there were instances were the game was almost not playable due to the lag and stuttering. Especially when you start up the game, when Google Play Games tries to ask you if you want to connect it with the game (annoying!), you have to wait at least 3-4 minutes in order to play, because of the crashing and lagging.

On the other side, the game is really beautiful game and it becomes really intense, once you 've played it for some time. At first I thought it was boring because of how similar to the other games it was, but when I got to the part where you shoot those jungle monster-like things (we'll call them Jmonsters) or when you get the bike; man did things got intense!

About the controls and the new moves that you have with this game, everything was well thought out, but my only problem was the wall run because I kept confusing it with a regular jump. Fortunately,  got used to after a while! In addition there were some moments were the moves you did were in slow-motion, pretty cool, right? Well after a while it becomes annoying; especially when you have a really high score, having to wait for the slow-mo part to finish can be a major let-down, so I would appreciate it if there was an option to turn that off.

SOUND
The music of the game was fairly good, but after a while it got boring. The same repeating tunes for hours after hours can become irritating, so I would like some change in the music, like when you ride the bike.

STORY
Yes, this game has a story. A cliche one at that, but IT HAS A STORY! However in order to progress with the story you have to collect some artifacts that you find as you play and that can become a pain in the butt, but I quite enjoyed it and it adds to an already good game.

Conclusion
Lara Croft: Relic Run is a generally good game, with a decent story and more than good gameplay. With a few improvements, especially with the lag issues, it could become one of the better games on mobile app stores.

Score: 7
